Dr. Justin Fults is the new principal of Perrysburg High School, following the resignation of Aaron Cookson last school year. While this is his first year as a principal, Fults has a lot of experience with students, and a strong history within the Perrysburg school district.

Fults has a variety of experiences working in schools.

“I came here to be the director of student services. . . . I was a school counselor at the middle school, I was an assistant principal at the middle school, I was at the high school as a counselor,” he stated.

Following his graduation from Northview High School, Fults attended John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. He originally wanted to be a pediatrician, stating, “I always wanted to help people and work with kids.”

After discovering medicine wasn’t for him, Fults switched to a business and accounting major, and spent around eight years in the field. Fults reignited his passion for helping kids while volunteering at the pediatric oncology unit in a Cleveland hospital.

“I went back to school at Kent State and got my master’s degree in counseling and human development,” Fults said.

After this, Fults got a job as a counselor at Maumee schools in 2007, and would stay in that district until 2022, when he got hired as Director of Student Services at Perrysburg. He has been here ever since.

When deciding to take the job as PHS principal, the decision was easy.

“There was a point last year where this seemed like a really interesting possibility and a great idea to come back and get to be with you guys everyday,” Fults said.

While he may be experienced with working in schools, Fults is still trying to be active in figuring out the needs of the staff and students, and how he can best support them.

“One of the things I’ve noticed . . . is we need to do a better job helping people . . . feel really good about what the next step after high school looks like. . . . You don’t have to know what your life’s work is going to be at 17, 18 years old, and just treat it as what it is: the next step,” Fults explained.

To Fults, the important thing for students and parents to remember is that the people in Perrysburg Schools are deeply dedicated to the students and families they serve. He stated that it was important to be understanding of each other, even if mistakes are made in some way.

“We’re always going to do what we can with . . . the students. You are the focal point of whatever we decide to do,” Fults concluded.
