As the 2022-2023 school year continues, Perrysburg High School persists in its welcoming of new students and staff members.

Ben Remaklus is beginning his career in education this year, as a new intervention specialist at PHS, after being an Ohio state trooper for seven years.
“My mom, my two sisters and my wife teach, and I just see how much they enjoy it and it was something I was interested in,” Remaklus said.
After shadowing his relatives last year, he decided to start working towards his teaching license by taking online courses at Ohio State University.
What is an intervention specialist?
An intervention specialist is a teacher who works with many students with varying ability and grade levels.
Remaklus explains that each day as an intervention specialist is different, because it is a versatile job that changes depending on the students’ needs.
“I really like the aspect that I get to work more with one student at a time, so I feel like I’m able to build relationships probably a little bit better that what I would have been able to if I had a full classroom full of students.”
“My room is a safe space and they’re always welcome to come in here. It’s an open door policy, so even if I don’t have them as a student they’re always welcome to stop by.”

Future in Perrysburg
Remaklus grew up in the area, having attended Anthony Wayne High School. Because of this, he understood that “Perrysburg is a great place to be.”
He is focusing on finding his stride and learning as a teacher, and is looking forward to more time in Perrysburg.
