The president of the freshman student council is a working machine. She aces every turn and high kick on the Perrysburg dance team, she speaks with confidence and enthusiasm with every school presentation, and laughs with friends even when she’s fatigued from the endless amounts of homework from the night before. But how does she do it? How can manage so much in one day?
Italia Burciaga is a ninth grader at Perrysburg High School.

Awareness month on October 3.
On top of this, Burciaga also dances outside of school, participating in dance competitions. And of course, she is a student that has a lot to study and work on.
“Student council and dance definitely tire me out a lot, but they usually don’t overlap. I really focus on dance so I don’t have to practice much at home. Between dance breaks I do student council things, so I can sleep at night,” Burciaga said with a laugh.
Even though she has a lot of responsibilities and commitments, Burciaga is able to maintain a balanced schedule. Using the help of a preppy planner and a positive attitude, she is able to keep her day organized.
Burciaga said, “time management helps, and also having people in my circle that allow me to lean on them and support me.”
Burciaga cares about each one of her passions. Dance has been a big part of her life since she was eleven years old. She carries dance with her in everything she does, not only physically but also emotionally.
“Dance helps me express emotions without saying anything. I hold really dear to the family I created at the studio,” Italia said with a soft smile.
Italia has many conflicts in her busy schedule but knows how to stay determined and get things done.

Harper Bly is Italia’s best friend and is also the vice president of freshman student council.
“She’s very genuine and determined; she’ll always show up and try her hardest,” Bly said.
Italia shows her great leadership skills as president of the freshman student council. She leads meetings on Tuesdays, types out the agendas, plans events and so many more things that she has to do as president.
“We do a lot for the school, decorations, and little things that people don’t notice. We put a lot of effort into what we do. It’s a great community to be a part of,” Burciaga said.
Her ability to bring people together and lead others, helps her not only in student council, but in her daily life as well.
“She’s good at communicating with anyone, she keeps everyone engaged and included. There isn’t anyone she wouldn’t be able to hold a conversation with,” Bly said.
Burciaga shows determination and strength in her busy life, exemplifying great leadership skills and friendliness.
