Under the bright lights of auditorium, the best and brightest Perrysburg seniors were honored at Tuesday’s Senior Awards Night, and eSomethin’s own Ari Collins was selected as this year’s George Munger Award winner.
The Munger Award is traditionally given to an outstanding English student voted on by the faculty of the English department.
“There are many talented student writers at Perrysburg High School, but what distinguishes Ari as this year’s George Munger Award winner is her willingness to speak truth to power, to write for a public audience and use her words to shape the world,” said Tim Kitson, an English teacher and the adviser of eSomethin.
“From Friday night football, to policy changes at the high school, to drag queens in Toledo, Ari Collins has covered it all. She has asked tough questions of school board members, Ohio politicians, climate change activists, and some of us in this room. She knows that journalism – real, honest, factual journalism – matters. Student voices matter. Her voice matters,” Kitson said.
