Last season, Perrysburg JV hockey team won the state championship and they may have a shot at it this year, too.
In February of 2025, the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets junior varsity hockey team won the state championship game against Findlay with a final score of 2-1.
Collin Mackett has been playing hockey for 13 years and is excited for the upcoming season.
His favorite part of the sport is team bonding. He says that hanging out outside of the rink is the best way to get closer to your teammates.
He says his greatest accomplishment was winning states last year.
Liam MacNeil, a junior who has been playing since he was about 3 years old, has been a part of the Perrysburg team for almost three years now.
He agrees that his biggest accomplishment was winning states.
“I’m looking forward to finals this year and seeing how far we go with winning states last year.”
Head coach Kevin Fisher is very excited for the team this year. He’s been Perrysburg’s head hockey coach for nine years.
He says the goal for this year is to win every period, to win every tournament and to win states.
He played hockey when he was younger, too. He “played for Findlay and loved it.”
Coach Fisher believes that the work you put in outside of what is scheduled really shows how good of a player you are by demonstrating your investment in the sport.
Both Mackett and coach Fisher say team-building activities and having fun brings the players closer and boosts the strength of the team.
MacNeil said “you should watch The Jackets play because there are lots of hits and always something going on.”
