January 20th, 2025 was the second presidential inauguration of Donald J. Trump. He is one of two presidents who has served a non-consecutive term – the other being Grover Cleveland who was both America’s 22nd and 24th president.
The inauguration began at roughly 12:00 pm EST, and lasted for around one hour. Prominent figures such as Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg attended. All living former presidents also attended.
Not only was January 20th a notable day due to the presidential inauguration, it was also Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The legacy of MLK was touched upon by Minnesota Democratic Senator, Amy Klobuchar, as well as New York Archbishop, Cardinal Dolan. “Today is Martin Luther King Day… In his honor we will work to make his dream a reality,” Trump said.
For the swearing in of President Trump, he was accompanied by his wife, and now First Lady, Melania, and his children. Similarly, Vice President JD Vance had by his side his wife, children, and his mother.
Following the swearing in of the President and Vice President, Trump gave a notable Inaugural Address.
“The Golden Age of America begins now,” Trump began his speech by saying. He then goes on to vow to restore the traits he believes were lost during the last presidential term, such as regaining the respect of other countries.
In response to his assassination attempt back in November, Trump said, “My life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to ‘Make America Great Again.’”
“I will declare a national emergency at our southern border,” Trump said. This is a reference to his opinions on the immigration conflicts in our country. “We will re-instante my ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy.”
The policy, created in 2019, places immigrants awaiting asylum hearings to remain in Mexico until the time of the hearing.
Numerous promises were made by President Trump during his Inaugural Address. Among those promises he vows he will bring down inflation, lower gas prices, revoke the Electric Vehicle Mandate and tax tariffs.
A controversial, yet crucial segment of the Inaugural Address, Trump claimed that there are only two genders. This has caused a multitude of media responses, both for and against this idea.
The Gulf of Mexico has been in recent news because Trump wishes to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘Gulf of America.’ He mentions this in his speech in which he reinforces this idea.
“In America, the impossible is what we do best,” Trump said to finish his speech.
Carrie Underwood commenced the official ceremony by singing ‘America the Beautiful.’ She encouraged the audience to sing along, and they did.
The theme of the inauguration was ‘Endurance of democracy.’ “Nothing will stand in our way because we are Americans, and the future is ours,” Trump said.
