Calling All Writers: There’s a New Club for You

Are you looking for a way to express your creativity? Are you tired of only writing essays? Well, look no further: the new Creative Writing Club at Perrysburg High School is looking for students like you.

Club member Elena Fuentes reflects on that feeling. “It’s been a while since I’ve gotten to write just for fun, so I hope that the club will be a fun place to hang out and use my imagination to create interesting stories.”

Founders Maanya Parikh and Ria Khatri were inspired by Power of the Pen, a competitive writing club at the Junior High. “High school didn’t really have anything like it, so we started our own.”

Fuentes was also involved in Power of the Pen as an alternate writer, meaning that she participated in meetings but did not go to competitions.

Each meeting, members are given a prompt, genre, and 30 minutes to write.

“There are a lot of ways people can write differently,” says Khatri as she describes how many genres the club’s members will get to explore. From Parikh’s fantasy to Khatri’s poetry, the sophomore leaders encourage members to dip their toes in to develop their writing skills.

Members enjoyed their first meeting on October 23rd.

“It was a really calming atmosphere,” says Khatri, reflecting on the meeting.

The Creative Writing Club meets every other Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. in room 234. For more information, join the Schoology group using the code KSZF-R8VT-TP9TP.

The next meeting of the Creative Writing Club will take place on Wednesday, November 27.
