Thwap! A ping-pong ball is speeding towards you at 30 miles an hour. Crack! You hear your paddle thump against the ball.
Ping-Pong club has just started here at Perrysburg High School led by two sophomores who took the incentive to go on the difficult journey to start a club.
Ping-Pong club was first thought of by two sophomores, Logan McNutt and Ishan Navuluru. The club is a time after school every Monday for students to have an opportunity to play ping-pong with friends and meet new people who have a shared love of the sport.
Mcnutt one of the founders of ping pong club with his paddle.
Joshua Spiegel, the advisor for Ping-Pong club and a teacher at Perrysburg for fifteen years, described the club as “just connection, friendly connection.”
Dustin Lewis, a member of the club, stated, “I love ping-pong because it gives me an opportunity to play ping-pong with friends and meet new people who also like ping-pong.”
Though the journey to forming the club wasn’t easy.
McNutt said one of the biggest struggles was finding a teacher to advise the club, a requirement to start clubs at the high school.
“It was hard to ask a teacher to take time away from grading and their home life so we could play ping-pong,” McNutt stated.
Another roadblock McNutt and Navuluru had while starting the club was finding the equipment needed to play.
McNutt said, “I had to drive an hour away to go get a ping-pong table I found for free on Facebook marketplace, and I even had to pay for a table with my own money.”
McNutt was also originally scared to not have everything done before asking a teacher.
McNutt said, “Before I asked a teacher I felt like I should already know everything. I was scared the club would get rejected without all the supplies already there.”
Ping-Pong club was created by two sophomore students who took the initiative to do something they love. If you share a passion for ping pong you can go to any meeting right after school every Monday.
