As of October 1st, Perrysburg is ranked #4 in the Division One ranking for the state of Ohio for football. They’ve been working around the clock constantly to get where they are today.

Key Players

Joe Seney is a senior running back and linebacker for the Yellow Jackets. He said, “I think that nobody will beat us and we have the potential to beat anyone we want. All of our hard work and the seniors on the team have really made sure to keep pushing towards making it as far into the playoffs as we can.”

Coach Todd Sims says of the senior leaders on the team, “The best seasons Perrysburg has had are from good senior leadership.” Sims said that some of the seniors who have had a big impact on the team this season include “QB(Josh Takats) is big, Defensive QB Joe(Seney) is big, but it can’t just be one guy.”

Rankings

The Yellow Jackets’ ranking varies from source to source. Canton Rep did not focus on Division 1 but did focus on the top 25 in the state prior to the Jackets’ win against Northview on September 27. The Jackets had 32 votes by the Associated Press to be top 25 in the state.

Sims emphasized that, “Guys must stay healthy to be able to play the way we are.”

MaxPreps is a website known for their involvement in ranking high school sports. According to MaxPreps, Perrysburg is ranked 32nd in the state. Inside Division 1, where there are 71 teams, the Jackets are 13th. Perrysburg plays Whitmer this upcoming Friday, October 4. Whitmer is ranked 19th in division 1 and 46th in the state. Whitmer had lost 27-3 to the Anthony Wayne Generals on Friday, September 27.

Looking Ahead

Findlay will be the next game on the schedule after tonight’s bout with Whitmer. Findlay defeated Springfield on September 27, 42-13. Findlay is currently ranked 48 in division 1 and ranked 186 in the state as of October 1. One of the best players on the Findlay Trojans’ team is Ryan Montgomery, who is committed to the University of Georgia. He suffered a season-ending ACL tear earlier this season. With him starting the Trojans went 8-3 last season and they are 3-3 so far without him. Montgomery will still be out against the Jackets. As a junior he had broken the single game touchdown record of 6 previously set by future NFL hall of famer Ben Roethlisberger. The Jackets will be away for this game on October 11th.

The final game of the regular season will be Perrysburg’s most significant rival, the Anthony Wayne Generals. The Generals, according to MaxPreps, are 29 in the state and 8 in Division 2. According to Sports Illustrated High School, the Generals are ranked 22nd in the state.

There is a 95% chance of the Jackets hosting 2 playoff games at home according to Fantastic50. Both Findlay and Whitmer are in our region for the playoffs.
